From the recording Ambigua, Act I - "to suggest is to dream"
Inspired by the poem L'après-midi d'un faune by Stéphane Mallarmé, it later provided the basis for the ballet Afternoon of a Faun, choreographed by Vaslav Nijinsky. One of Debussy's most famous works, it is considered a turning point in the history of music; I tried to bring out the ambiguous harmonic qualities of this masterpiece. No solid ground, no certainty, an arcadian and ideal place… no sense of orientation, no presumptions. Just a hazy, floating soundscape, underpinned by washes of harps and eerie flute breezes...
