From the recording Ambigua, Act I - "to suggest is to dream"
The Gymnopédies are regarded as an important precursor to modern ambient music — gentle yet somewhat eccentric pieces which, when composed, defied the classical tradition. The melodies use deliberate, but mild, dissonances against the harmony, producing a piquant, melancholy effect. I adapted these three short pieces focusing on what they already were: ambient and relaxing, hypnotic, still harmonically ambiguous, a prophetic vision of music to come.
